We have some bummer news if you love Dunkin Donuts’ Coffee Coolatta
Apologies in advance to all you Dunkin’ Donuts drink enthusiasts out there. The Dunkin’ Donuts Coffee Coolatta will no longer be on the menu. Come summer, Dunkin’ Donuts is nixing this beverage and replacing it with something brand spankin’ new: the Frozen Dunkin’ Coffee.
You might be wondering why. You might be confused. You might be screaming to the heavens in agony. It’s okay, we feel your pain. Dunkin’ Donuts’ senior vice president of brand marketing, Chris Fuqua, spoke about this change at a press conference at headquarters on Tuesday.
"Our Coffee Coolatta isn't good enough," Fuqua said.
Apparently, Dunkin’ is trying to appeal to a different customer base by killing the Coolatta and introducing the Frozen Dunkin’ Coffee. Which customer base that is, we’re not sure of. But we do know that the Coolatta was one hefty drink.
A large Mocha Coolatta weighs in at 990 calories and 133 grams of sugar, which has 10 times as much sugar as 3 chocolate creme donuts. Whoa.
However, it’s not like Dunkin’ is offering a healthier option by replacing the Coolatta with a Frozen Coffee. Dunkin’ Donuts’ new Frozen Coffee, when ordered with cream, has 840 calories and 123 grams of sugar. If you order it with skim milk, it still has 550 calories and 125 grams of sugar. That’s almost triple the amount of sugar we’re supposed to consuming in a single day.
Dunkin’ reps say part of this change is because they’re trying to make more coffee-centric beverages in order to please the public, especially considering how much success they’ve had with their recent cold brew.
We understand what they’re going for, but we still think it would have been possible to accomplish that and keep the Coolattas alive. All we can do is cross our fingers that the Frozen Dunkin’ Coffee is just as worthy of our time and money!
