Two newly announced books we are SO READY for

2015 is here, and I already know it’s going to be a stellar year for books. So if you haven’t made room on your bookshelf, NOW IS THE TIME, bookworms, especially since it’s been recently announced that both Mariel Hemingway (Ernest Hemingway’s incredibly talented granddaughter) AND rapper Danny Brown are releasing books very, very soon.

Mariel Hemingway, who you might remember from the films Manhattan, or Personal Best, is an actress and an author who has written about yoga and cooking, as well as a lifestyle memoir she published in 2002. While her grandpa may have been one of the most well-known and Canonized American authors in literary history, Mariel has made quite a name for herself (thankyouverymuch), and she’s not even close to being finished. The prolific author recently wrote a YA novel titled, Invisible Girl, and according to Flavorwire, it is based on her life, “and will recount what growing up a Hemingway was really like, in diary form.” BTB: She also wrote a new memoir, because girl is THAT good. Both novels will be available April 7th, so mark those calendars!

And in more amazing literary news, rapper Danny Brown is reportedly writing a book for his 13-year-old daughter that will focus on self-esteem in black girls. According to The Mary Sue, the book really looks at “how black women do so much —process their hair, change their eye color. It’s really about a little girl who does all these things to herself and changes herself and she realizes she’s just better off the way she is.” The book’s narrative structure is inspired by Dr. Seuss, and I’m also getting a Toni Morrison and Ntozake Shange vibe, and I am really digging it. This book will not only be an amazing, wonderful gift to his daughter, but a gift to all girls (and boys) who suffer from low self-esteem and self-acceptance. There’s no release date yet, but Danny is hard at work, and told Rolling Stone that it’s going to be REALLY Dr. Seuss-y. Obviously we cannot wait.
