This video of an NYC subway platform flooding during today’s flash flood is terrifying

After a long, brutal winter in which the East Coast was pummeled by four winter storms, spring has finally arrived. But even though the weather is warming up, there has been no shortage of April showers to bring May flowers. Today, April 16th, New York City is facing a torrential downpour, which has even led to flash floods. And while plenty of odd things have happened on the subway, viral videos of the New York City subway flooding are truly terrifying.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory until 4:15 p.m. EDT for several New York counties, including all of New York City, as well as several counties in Connecticut and New Jersey. According to the NWS, as much as two inches of rain had fallen on the city before noon.

Waterlogged subways caused several train lines to face delays this morning, including the B, D, E, F, G, and M lines, according to the New York Daily News. And rain poured into some of the stations, causing flooding. The Daily News reported that, in order to avoid the large amounts of water, northbound lines began to skip the 145th St. station starting at around 10 a.m.

Videos of the New York City subway flooding went viral on social media.

Twitter user Josh Guild uploaded a video of water cascading down the stairs of the 145th St. and Broadway station at about 9:45 a.m. local time.

Meanwhile, Jeremy Barr, a writer for The Hollywood Reporter, tweeted a video of rain pouring into the 42nd St. Bryant Park station, drenching passengers and the exterior of a subway car. “Good morning and welcome to hell,” Barr captioned the video.

Despite the harrowing subway flooding, there is good news for residents of New York. According to AccuWeather, the rain is likely to taper off this afternoon, and the worst is over in the city itself. Hopefully, the Big Apple will see blue skies again soon. But until then, stay dry, everyone!
