There is another Shonda Rhimes show coming into our lives, all the yasss
One of the reigning queens of television is about to add another castle to her growing kingdom. The woman who already has Thursdays nights locked down, Shonda Rhimes, just had another pilot ordered from ABC Studios. That will make four TV shows for Rhimes come this fall. Think our already over-packed TV schedule can handle it?
Obviously, the answer is yes.
The Catch follows “a female forensic accountant whose career specialty is exposing fraud for a living.” So once again, it looks like Rhimes is bringing a strong, powerful, smart woman to the forefront of TV. Also, the main character (still unnamed) has a rocky love life and might wind up in some fraud herself: her fiancee sounds like he’s a con man. And, from the show’s description: “When the fiancé’s expertly planned con collides with her perfectly constructed lies, they plunge into a dangerous game of cat and mouse.”
OK, this sounds awesome. It also sounds like “forensic accounting” is another job we can add to our ever growing list of jobs we want when we grow up — because don’t we all secretly want to be a scandal-fixer now?
So far, there is no cast attached to the project, but Rhimes will executive produce along with her long-time producing partner, Betsy Beers. Also to note, Jennifer Schuur (who has worked on Hannibal and Big Love) is going to pen the pilot. It’s a lady driven show which is currently run by ladies. Approved.
I can’t imagine The Catch will air at 11pm on Thursdays, so it looks like Rhimes will start inching her way into other weekday nights. If all goes according to our DREAM plan, she’ll soon be in charge of all of television. That’s not something to complain about.
