What we already know about the new season of ‘The Walking Dead’
It’s hard to believe, but the day is very nearly upon us — season six of The Walking Dead is premiering on Sunday! Though we’ve been getting small hints of what’s to come via Fear the Walking Dead, the prequel show that delves into exactly what leads to the epic zombie apocalypse, we left off on a pretty major cliffhanger back in season five.
The seemingly idyllic town of Alexandria was home to people in possession of their own secrets and hidden agendas, and while Rick Grimes may have illuminated some of it, his drive to uncover the truth led to some pretty hairy moments.
At New York Comic-Con this weekend, comic book creator and executive producer Robert Kirkman (as well as some of the cast) teased a little of what will be coming down the pipeline in season six:
Season six is going to be the most intense one yet
According to Kirkman, there will be cliffhangers at the end of every episode. Gone are the seasons where we could likely expect a small amount of downtime after a particularly brutal ep; it sounds like this is going to be the season where none of us get a break. We’re six seasons in by this point, though. As the situation escalates for our characters, we as an audience will just be holding on for the ride.
You will need to watch out for what happens with Daryl and Carol
YUP. Norman Reedus said it himself. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Reedus instructs us TWD viewers and devoted fans to watch out for an Easter egg:
There’s still so much we don’t know about all the new faces in Alexandria
We’ve been getting glimpses of some of the new cast members in season six, like Ethan Embry and Merritt Wever, but apart from those teases we still don’t know how their characters are going to play a part in the story. The knowledge that even after all this time, there are still new people popping up means that there will be new conflicts, new relationships and new journeys to explore. Frankly, we’re excited for these new additions and how they may or may not clash with our weathered survivors.
And we may have confirmation of season seven already(!)
During the NYCC panel, Kirkman sort of possibly accidentally confirmed that a seventh season was in the works before he started to back off of the topic, adding that he didn’t want to get into trouble with AMC. “We’re talking about season seven. It’s not official but given the success of the shows, I think there’s some room for that sort of thing, there’s a good chance it will happen.”
Given how intense this show has been and is already slated to be starting this weekend, we’re already speculating on just how much worse things could possibly get for Rick Grimes and the other survivors by the time season seven happens.
