New report says people don’t want to pay more than *this much* per month for Netflix

Is Netflix considering another price increase? The streaming service hasn’t made any announcements about a higher fee since raising monthly rates back in May but a new study reveals that many users will likely jump ship if Netflix decided to increase prices to $15 a month.

A poll of 3,114 adults in the U.S. and Canada conducted by Digitalsmiths shows that 29.3 percent of those surveyed would be willing to say hasta la vista to the service if Netflix increased its current rates. Meanwhile, 39.1 percent were decidedly more flexible, agreeing to pay $12-$15 a month, but no more than that. The study also reveals that 10.4 percent of the respondents use someone else’s account for viewing, which might mean they’re the only segment of Netflix viewers who are unbothered by the prospect of a price hike.

Then again, maybe not. Netflix’s subscriber growth was stunted last quarter so it’s understandable that another rate increase wouldn’t go over well with many of its users and it certainly wouldn’t encourage subscription-borrowing people to start paying for their own.

We can’t help but wonder if this study is Netflix’s covert method of testing the waters before sticking it to us (again), but we sure hope that doesn’t happen anytime soon — or ever.
