A new Mariah Carey breakup song could be on the way to mend shattered hearts
Relief may be on the way for anyone nursing a shattered heart. Reportedly, a new Mariah Carey breakup song featuring rapper YG is in the works, and we’ve never been so excited to add to our playlist of beautiful breakup songs. Apparently, the rapper confirmed his collaboration with Carey in a recent interview, and according to TMZ, fans can expect the Mimi’s breakup song to premiere during this weekend’s season finale of Mariah’s World.
As we noted after the singer parted ways with former fiancé, Australian billionaire James Packer, Carey has the most refreshing attitude about her breakup, so we’re not expecting this tune (which is supposedly inspired by the former couple’s split) to be the type of rage-filled anthem that will leave you with a face full of streaky mascara from yell-cry-singing the lyrics into your tear-drenched lap.
Not that we all wouldn’t love another angsty post-breakup, Alanis Morissette Jagged Little Pill-inspired song, but that’s never really been Carey’s style. She’s more about expressing the tender, more rational stages of working through a breakup (which are rare, but actually exist), like the matter-of-fact manner in which she told Ellen DeGeneres how she’s feeling about her recent relationship ending.
"I think I'm doing well… Everything happens for a reason," Carey told the talk show host. "Things are the way they are."
Now, is that not the most authentic, sensible response ever? Then again, Carey could be #TeamPetty and hit us with a bitter breakup track like:
ZOMG. HOW AMAZING WOULD THAT BE?
Fine, so we totally want the drah-ma, but we’re always more than happy to welcome Mimi’s butterfly and glitter-filled approach to getting over an old bae.
