The new ‘Little Prince’ trailer is all kinds of beautiful

You may not have ever read the story of The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, but, you have probably heard of it. Although it was originally published in 1943, the book sells over 2 million copies a year, so when the story was picked up by Pixar, people got excited. And the hype has gotten even bigger with the newl- released trailer.

Funnily enough, this wasn’t the first release. The trailer was actually quietly uploaded to YouTube December of 2014, but the first trailer was for the French version of the film. And although the animation was just as breathtakingly beautiful, the new trailer just released today in English is much longer, and also gives us a better idea of how they plan on telling the story.

The film, directed by Mark Osborne of The Kung Fu Panda, tells the story of a little girl, called The Little Girl. Her mother appears to be overbearing, meticulously planning out The Little Girl’s life. But one day The Little Girl meets an old pilot who begins to tell her the story of a Little Prince that lives alone on an asteroid. Many were unsure as to how Pixar planned on telling the famous classic, but it appears that they have found a heartbreaking new take on the story, as well as a beautiful method of animation, creating a hybrid between the 3-D animation that they are famous for and the beautiful stop-motion animation of Fantastic Mr. Fox.

The French version of the film has already been widely released internationally, including France, Brazil, and China, and is the first non-American animated film to reach #1 at the box office. And the reviews have been insanely positive. Just imagine how good it’ll be with the star studded cast of the U.S. release including Rachel McAdams, Jeff Bridges,  Benicio Del Toro, Paul Giamatti, and Ricky Gervais. I have a feeling this might end up being my favorite Pixar movie ever.
