Looks like the new iPhone is going back to its roots
It’s been a looooooong time since smaller phones were in vogue. These days, the bigger the better. Since most of us don’t use our phones to make actual phone calls anymore, emphasis on phone design has been focused on increasing the size, so much so that most of today’s smartphones handle more like mini-tablets than actual cell phones. Apple has been steadily increasing the size of iPhones with each new model, introducing the iPhone 6 at 4.7 inches, while the 6 Plus is 5.5 inches.
Those are big phones. The perks of a bigger phone mean a bigger screen and better resolution, which is great for taking photos and watching Netflix on the go. That doesn’t necessarily mean bigger is better, though. Some of the larger phones are really just too hard to handle for some people, especially if you have smaller hands. It also hurts so much more when you drop it on your face while texting in bed (yes, we’ve all done this). Oh, and it’s prone to falling out of jacket or pants pockets due to it’s size.
Well, if you have small hands or just aren’t on board with the larger phone models, you might be in luck. Mashable reports that Apple is kicking it old-school early next year, with plans to release new 4-inch iPhone in 2016. The new, smaller phone would include most of the things the 6 and 6 Plus models already have: the same processor, a slightly curved glass front, and Apple Pay. Unfortunately, it may not have the same camera specs as the bigger models.
Apple does still currently sell an iPhone with a 4-inch screen, the iPhone 5S, but the model doesn’t support some of the newer features iOS features, like the aforementioned Apple Pay.
