This new Facebook feature could be the end of your timeline as you know it
Facebook News Feeds are possibly about to change… again. The social network is testing a new posting option that would make News Feed posts very similar to tweets.
The test gives you the option to make a Facebook post that will only show up on the News Feed and not on your Timeline. As more updates happen, your post will be pushed down — just like tweets are pushed down on Twitter. So let’s say you write a post like, “Met the love of my life, and I really think he’s the one,” but then you end up realizing that he’s actually pretty terrible and you break up a week later. Your post will be so far down on the News Feed by then, it’s unlikely that anyone will ever see it again. false
Your post will still be viewable by link or by searching for it, but it won’t be sitting on your Timeline forever. So if you’re the type of person who likes to post quick updates on all the things you’re thinking and feeling, but you don’t want to worry about deleting the posts if your thoughts happen to change, this might be just what you need.
Because it’s just a test for now, not all users have it. And as of now, you have to enable News Feed-only posts on a post-by-post basis. The option appears as a “Hide from your Timeline” checkbox next to the posting button. So the way it’s set up now, it requires effort — which means it’s unlikely that it’ll change the way people use Facebook.
Facebook is concerned with the decline in users posting personal information on their News Feed for their friends to see — and the News Feed is Facebook’s primary money-maker, according to The Information. So the hope is that people will starting treating Facebook more like Twitter.
