Behold: 38 new emojis are coming our way, and they’re super expressive
It took ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics more than a few centuries to fully develop. Yet, it’s only taken a teeny-weeny amount of time for emojis to evolve and take over the world of mass communication. According to Professor Vyv Evans of Bangor University, emojis are now the fasting growing language in the United Kingdom. I’m not kidding.
Think about it. Where in the world would we be without our favorite icon friends? Instead of being burdened with the task of stringing together a bunch of sentences, we now have the ability to express ourselves with cute little graphics instead. What’s not to love?
Well, emoji lovers, here’s one more reason for you rejoice: There are 38 (yes, I repeat thirty-eight) new emoji coming soon to an iPhone or Android near you! The Unicode Consortium — a.k.a the emoji gods who standardize characters across various operating systems — has just released a preview of all the fascinating new selections that will become available in June 2016.
Before you get too excited though, remember that not all 38 might make it to your phone. Individual operating systems will need to implement the new images into their databases first. But that’s not stopping us from imagining all the extraordinary things we’ll be able to do!
With the new selfie character, you can ask someone to take a selfie without having to, well, awkwardly ask for a selfie. Feeling a bit under the weather? Call in sick with the vomiting emoji! The 21st century is here, and it’s awesome, guys. The possibilities are endless.
Others include a cowboy, crossed fingers, a stop sign, a drooling face, a handshake, a prince, a shrug, and a face palm (a full list is below). Oh and can you say avocado and bacon? Yes, please! You can find the rest of them right here.
Needless to say, we are super stoked. It looks like 2016 is already shaping up to be quite a year and we’re so looking forward to meeting these new cuties. Let’s just say we’ll be making proper use of them. Every. Single. Day.
