A new clip from Gillian Flynn’s ‘Dark Places’ proves this movie will be more intense than ‘Gone Girl’
Author Gillian Flynn’s got “dark mystery” down pat. If you’re a fan of her psychological thriller Gone Girl or the chilling film adaptation starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike (or both), then you’ve probably already read Dark Places, published three years prior to Gone Girl. The novel, which revolves around a woman named Libby Day who investigates whether her jailed brother is actually responsible for the murder of their family, was on the New York Times Best Seller List for two consecutive weeks, because let’s be real: Gillian’s got a talent for keeping us on the edge of our seats. And her books make great, great movies.
Dark Places is coming to the big screen on August 7th of this year, and the trailer already skeeved us out on its own (but not enough to keep us from hustling into the theater come August 7th to see the amazingness unfold for ourselves). But now, a scene from the screen adaptation has just been released, and it’s evident that every single second will be filled with the scary tension we loved in Gone Girl.
The scene isn’t even a minute long, and it just consists of Libby (played by the magnificent Charlize Theron) drilling her incarcerated brother, Ben (played by House of Cards’ Corey Stoll) about his innocence (or lack thereof), but it’s already looking to be just as intense and dark as Gone Girl, if not more so.
In the clip, Libby stares her brother down as he insists that he did not kill their family. “Then why have you never filed for an appeal?” she growls in response. “You like it so much in there you wanna stay there?” He says nothing in response and she tells him he’s “full of sh*t” and hangs up the phone.
It’s evident that this eerie mystery is going to be as heart-pounding and bone-chilling as ever, and we’re SUPER pumped to see it. Plus, did we mention Chloë Grace Moretz plays a satanic cult leader? And Nicholas Hoult is part of an organization called “The Kill Club”? WICKED.
