This new Carly Rae Jepsen song might be CATCHIER than ‘Call Me Maybe’

It’s been over two years since Carly Rae Jepsen’s infectious tune, “Call Me Maybe” invaded our ears in all of its bubblegum glory. The song quickly ascended to legendary pop status and has since been the source of viral lip dub videos, one of which belonged to the USA’s 2012 Olympic swimming team. Even the most jaded, anti-pop music snobs were singing along to “Call Me Maybe”.

Needless to say, it’s a tough tune to top, but Carly Rae Jepsen may have outdone herself this time around. Her latest tune, “I Really Like You” has been dubbed the unofficial follow-up to her smash hit, “Call Me Maybe”. Even her manager, Scooter Braun, gave the song his seal of approval. “I told her that she couldn’t come out with anything unless it was on the level of ‘Call Me Maybe,’” he told Billboard back in January. “And, now we have a new one that is on that level”.

“I Really Like You,” which is set to be featured on Carly’s forthcoming third studio album, is a slight departure from “Call Me Maybe”. Though she sings a catchy chorus over some ’80s-inspired percussion, the song does have a noticeably more slinky, mature sound to it. And did we mention? “I Really Like You” was written by The Cardigans (yes, as in “Lovefool” The Cardigans) Jacob Kasher and Peter Svensson!

Although there’s no music video to accompany the tune just yet, rumor has it that Tom Hanks and Justin Bieber are set to make cameos. I know — Scooter Braun is also Justin’s manager — but where on earth did they find Tom Hanks? Hey, we’re cool with it!

Now, stop everything, get your Monday groove pants on, and listen to the song riiiiight here.
