Red from “Orange is the New Black” was a friggin’ Captain on “Star Trek” FYI

Breast implant exploder Galina “Red” Reznikov is without doubt one of our favorite inmates at Litchfield Penitentiary on Orange is the New Black. She’s tough, sassy, and makes a (literally) mean tampon sandwich.

But underneath that fierce exterior lies a brave woman. No, we’re not talking about her former organized-crime running self. We’re talking about the fact that Red’s IRL counterpart, actor Kate Mulgrew, played Captain Kathryn Janeway on the late ’90s / early ’00s TV series Star Trek: Voyager.

There have been appearances by other women Starfleet captains in the Star Trek-verse, however Mulgrew is still the only woman to play a central character CAPTAIN in any Star Trek incarnation.
