The year is 1957. The stars are Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr and the Empire State Building plays a key role in this illicit affair. Crying is guaranteed.

Watch if you want to wallow in heartbreak.

Shakespeare in Love

The great bard involved in a secret love affair, is there anything more romantic? Perhaps only the scene in which William unspools Viola from her underpinnings.

The scene above. The feelings we feel when we watch the scene above. That is all. Also Horse and Hound.

Watch if you want to laugh and cry — probably at the same time. Probably happy tears.

His Girl Friday

Cary Grant 17 years before An Affair to Remember, and already just as charming. A screwball comedy, and a love triangle involving divorcees. Also, impeccable outfits like the one Rosalind Russell is wearing above.

Watch if you want to be wowed by witty banter (and gentlemen).

Ghost

Even if you’ve never seen this movie, you’ve likely seen this scene  — aka Demi Moore doing sensual pottery with Patrick Swayze. It might sound ridiculous, but it’s insanely romantic. Promise.

What if you like your love stories with a side of action and spookiness.

Amélie

A beautiful romance that takes place in a beautiful city, and is anchored to a character who has decided to devote herself to bringing people happiness. Hard not to smile.

The Bollywood version of the Jane Austen classic, fully equipped with dance numbers, Aishwarya Rai perfection, and a swoon-worthy romance. Also, it was directed by the same gal who directed Bend It Like Beckham.

Watch if you’re in the mood for romance + dance breaks.

Grease

We’ve seen versions of this classic so many times over and it never gets old. Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen truly do make us love this story anew (and most ardently).

Watch if you want to feel that “I want that kind of love” pain in your heart.

Maid in Manhattan

Classic rom-com vibes with J.Lo as the maid Marisa who falls for a politician who just so happens to think she’s a socialite. Nothing like mistaken identity to raise the romantic stakes.

Watch if you want to lose yourself in the most romantic of epics.

Roman Holiday

A classic if there ever was one. Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck take on Rome and royalty. Romance ensues and our romantic bucket list will now forever include an impromptu hair cut, the Spanish Steps, and a press conference spoken in romantic code.

Watch if you want your heart to be charmed right out of your chest.
