There are a WHOLE bunch of original movies coming to Netflix

Just yesterday, Netflix announced premiere dates for four of its brand new original movies. Yipee! The streaming site already has us wrapped around their little finger with bonkers-amazing original television shows, and they’re betting we’ll binge their movies too — like that’s even a question. While there have certainly been original Netflix features before (lots and lots of comedy specials, too), it’s time for some big-budgeted, big-star, movies. And Netflix totally agrees. Are you guys ready for this new Netflix adventure?

The first up is Beasts of No Nation, which will premiere on October 16th on Netflix and in select theaters across the United States. The film stars Idris Elba and was directed by Cary Fukunaga — you know his name because he directed the entire first season of True Detective. Beasts of No Nation is based on the book by the same name, written by Uzodinma Iweala. It tells the story of young boy who is forced to join up with mercenary fighters and a warlord, played by Elba.

Following that, on December 11, we’ll get a chance to check out Adam Sandler’s new Netflix comedy, The Ridiculous Six, which sounds like it’s a spoof of The Magnificent Seven, but not to be confused with Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight (lots of numbered movies coming out soon). While there’s not much plot to go off on this Western comedy, it literally stars everyone: Adam Sandler, Taylor Lautner, Terry Crews, Rob Schneider, Luke Wilson, Jorge Garcia, and Steve Zahn all have roles. That said, this movie is already STEEPED in controversy. The “spoof” film has offended Native Americans, and a Native American cultural advisor and several cast members walked off set after being offended by the film’s content. When that happened, Netflix gave this statement: “The movie has ridiculous in the title for a reason: because it is ridiculous. It is a broad satire of Western movies and the stereotypes they popularized, featuring a diverse cast that is not only part of — but in on — the joke.” We will see!

There’s also the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon sequel, The Green Legend. It’s set to premiere sometime between January – March. Its plot is simply described as, “a story of lost love, young love, a legendary sword and one last opportunity at redemption.” Expect insane action sequences and brilliant cinematography, just like the first movie. It was originally going to premiere this August, but it has sadly been pushed back. But hey, it will open in IMAX theaters the same day it drops onto Netflix, so that’s cool.

And last, but certainly not least, Pee-wee’s Big Holiday coming to us in March of 2016. YAAAAAAY. This time, we’re going to follow Pee-Wee on his, “first-ever holiday in this epic story of friendship and destiny.” Paul Rubens returns to the role of Pee-Wee, and the film also stars Joe Manganiello because WHY NOT?
