Netflix’s new Glen Powell romance is officially the next The Notebook, so get ready to sob at this trailer
There’s nothing like a good romantic period drama to make us feel all the feels—and luckily there’s one heading to Netflix in just a few days. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society lands on the streaming website on August 10th, and it seriously has the potential to be the next The Notebook.
A period drama? Check. A strong, stylish lead played by a quickly up-and-coming A-list actress? You bet. A tragic-but-handsome male lead in need of love? Of course. Another ridiculously handsome guy in the role of the other man? Check, again.
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society stars Lily James—who is having a *stellar* summer—as Juliet Ashton, a writer living in post-World War II London, who begins a correspondence with the members of a book club on the British island of Guernsey (which was occupied by Germany during the war). A romantic drama about resistance and literature? We’re adding this to our queues right now.

The movie, which doubles as a Downton Abbey reunion–but isn’t *the* upcoming Downton movie—also stars Matthew Goode, Jessica Brown Findlay, Penelope Wilton, Tom Courtenay, and Katherine Parkinson, as well as our favorite Daario Naharis, aka Michiel Huisman.
And, of course, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society also reunites us with our new internet boyfriend, Set It Up‘s Glen Powell, who stars as Juliet’s dashing American fiancé. More Glen Powell? Yes, please!
Like The Notebook, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is based on a novel of the same name, by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. Sure, the title doesn’t *quite* roll off the tongue the same way the Nicholas Sparks classic’s does, but we have a feeling the British drama will make us laugh, cry, and definitely feel a lot.
