Netflix is releasing its first ever comic book, hereby making binge-reading a thing

Netflix, the home of TV series, movies, and on occasion, your entire Saturday, is branching out from beyond the screen. Not in a weird, horror movie way or anything; it’s so much better than that. Netflix is releasing its first comic book from veteran creator Mark Millar, and it’s already slated for a spring 2018 release.

Netflix’s foray into comic books is called The Magic Order. The six-part series will be written by Millar, with at least one issue illustrated by Olivier Copiel, a longtime Marvel artist.

As the Netflix press release explains, “The Magic Order” centers on five ancient families of magicians who are sworn to protect the world. The families live as regular people by day, but “battle an enemy who’s picking them off one by one” at night.

Millar describes the series as “dark fantasy,” a genre he loves to work with. Prior to his Millarworld being acquired by Netflix, the comics creator worked at both Marvel and D.C. Entertainment. When at Marvel, he was responsible for developing the series that, “inspired the first Avengers movie, Captain America: Civil War, and Logan, per Variety.

“The Magic Order” will be available at comic book stores, at regular retail outlets, and in digital formats.

So, comic book collectors, rejoice! But, Netflix will not be sticking to the strictly digital original content plan for their first book series. Furthermore, since the company acquired Millarworld in its entirety, they have full publishing rights to its comics catalog. Millarworld’s titles include recent action-packed hits like Kick-Ass and Kingsman.

Millar, this seems like the beginning of a beautiful partnership. Is it spring 2018 yet?
