Netflix canceled ANOTHER female-led show, and we’re fuming

We have some sad and frustrating news. On Friday, August 17th, Entertainment Weekly reported that Netflix canceled The Break with Michelle Wolf. The talk show, which first aired back in May, was hilarious, biting, and a pleasure to watch. We’re disappointed to see it go—especially because it was a female-led series.

The Break was an attempt for the streaming platform to steer away from scripted series. The topical talk show aired weekly in half-hour installments. It featured biting monologues from Wolf as well as various bits, interviews, and videos. If you haven’t seen it, you can stream all 10 episodes on Netflix right now.

Despite its unfortunate cancelation, The Break is essential viewing for fans of Wolf. It packs the same humor she brought to Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, her HBO standup special “Nice Lady,” and the 2018 White House Correspondents Dinner.

But the damage doesn’t stop there. Netflix also axed The Joel McHale Show with Joel McHale, which was similar to his long-running series The Soup.

It’s frustrating when networks cancel female-led shows. Netflix got rid of Maria Bamford’s Lady Dynamite earlier this year and Chelsea Handler’s talk show, Chelsea, late last year.

While we haven’t heard anything from Wolf just yet, her fans have been voicing their sadnes on Twitter.

We love Michelle Wolf’s brand of comedy and we’re looking forward to seeing what she does next. Someone get this woman a new show ASAP.
