Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig is making an anime series with Netflix starring Jaden Smith, because anything is possible

Ezra Koenig may be the frontman for one of our favorite indie rock bands, Vampire Weekend, but it seems his next project is taking him far away from the stage. The singer has a new anime series for Netflix, which he created, wrote, and executive produced with Nick Weidenfeld, and it stars — WAIT FOR IT — Jaden Smith.

Neo Yokio, which hits Netflix on September 22nd, stars Smith as Kaz Kaan, a lovesick teen, and youngest member of a family of “magistocrats” (demon slayers) who, decades after his family liberated the city of Neo Yokio from demons, isn’t exactly focused on the family business. Instead of slaying demons, he’d rather be playing field hockey, shopping, and reveling in heartbreak.

We have so many questions about Koenig and Smith’s friendship but it seems it resulted in this gem of a anime series.

Check out the wonderfully bizarre trailer below:

What did we just watch and can we please see more??

Voicing characters alongside Smith are Jude Law, who plays Kaz’s loyal butler Charles, The Kid Mero and Desus Nice as Kaz’s BFFS Lexy and Gottlieb, Jason Schwartzman as Arcangelo Corelli, and Susan Sarandon as Kaan matriarch Aunt Agatha. Rounding out the incredibly star- studded series are Richard Ayoade, Ike Barinholtz, Steve Buscemi, Alexa Chung, Stephen Fry, Katy Mixon,  Annet Mahendru, Kiernan Shipka, Willow Smith and Amandla Stenberg

“Neo Yokio is the greatest city in the world. It is a diverse labyrinth of cultural and architectural innovation," Charles tells us un the trailer. “Of course, whenever a city becomes the envy of the world problems are bound to arise.

That is both terribly ominous and so intriguing. Hopefully, lovesick Kaz will rise to the occasion to take on the demons that will inevitably try to take over Neo Yokio. And hey, it might even be the cure for a broken heart.

If we know one thing, it that Neo Yokio will be packing a serious punch when it hits Netflix on September 22nd.
