Guys! Nelly Furtado is BACK. Listen to her new song here

It was 10 years ago when Nelly Furtado actually slayed our entire existence when she released her genre defining album Loose, a collection of bang-on-trend pop and R&B songs co-produced by Timberland, the man who helped the likes of Justin Timberlake, Missy Elliot, Madonna and, obviously, the late Aaliyah create some of their most iconic songs.

The album spawned such classics as “Maneater,” “Promiscuous,” and the wistful ballad “Say It Right,” cementing Nelly as a staple of mid-00s music. We still get totally lit to these tracks when we hear them out; like a sugar rush they give us the ultimate high (because they’re still 100% amazing). The album, of course, reached number one on the Billboard 200 album chart and has over 12 million copies worldwide. Wow. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=

In 2012, Nelly returned with The Spirit Indestructible, this time in collaboration with Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins. The album, however, failed to set the charts on fire, and didn’t quite reach the lofty heights of Loose.

Since then, Nelly has kept a pretty low profile. However, 2016 seems set to be the year that Nelly Furtado makes her comeback and OMG we’re so excited.

After making an appearance of Blood Orange’s sublime Freetown Sound (if you’ve not listened to that album yet, definitely got out and give it a spin), the 37-year-old singer also shared an acoustic cover of Calvin Harris’s “Feels So Close.”

Now, however, Nelly has returned with her first solo offering in FOUR YEARS. The song, titled “Behind Your Back,” is pure funky throwback complete with Hammond organ solo and ’90s hip hop beats.

Taking to Twitter to talk about the song, Nelly said, “Surrounded by my 90’s heroes had me nostalgic. Behind Your Back is a special that won’t b on my LP. It’s a palette cleanse…an appetizer [sic].” false

As is the modern way, Nelly shared the song exclusively with Spotify. Luckily, Spotify offers a ‘freemium’ version, so anyone can sign up and listen.
