All the thoughts we had watching the “Neighbors 2” trailer
Today is a fantastic day: The trailer for Neighbors 2 is finally here! The film is a sequel to the 2014 comedy starring Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne as a couple that moves into a house next door to Zac Efron and Dave Franco’s super bro-y fraternity. The movie was a hit, and a sequel was quickly put into the works.
This time around the story is centered around a sorority. To really nail the details, Actor/Producer Seth Rogen and Director Nicholas Stoller hired female writers to help offer new perspectives.
Naturally, the sorority gets under the skin of Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne’s characters. “With the sorority girls, it’s like a glimpse into their daughter’s future,” Rose Byrne told Entertainment Weekly. “It terrifies them.”
That quote perfectly sets the stage for the trailer, which we had many thoughts about. Let’s walk through things together, shall we?
Now entering: Sorority territory.
The first film was about Zac Efron and Dave Franco’s fraternity. But in Neighbors 2, we’ve officially turned down Sorority Row. Next stop: the Phi Lambda house!
Selena Gomez looks like a BOSS.
The singer plays Madison, the Phi Lambda sorority president, and takes her duties very seriously. She scolding Chloë Grace Moretz’s character early in the trailer for smoking in the house. But the sweeter-than-pie leader also knows how to have fun.
Kappa Nu is not your average sorority. And I really want to join.
They might go by “Kappa,” but there’s nobody named Chanel in this sorority. The Kappa girls look badass! Do you think they’re accepting new pledges?
Seth Rogan and Rose Byrne are NOT pleased.
The beginning of the trailer makes Neighbors 2 seem like a turf war between two sorority houses. And then these two showed up, right on time.
More car gags. I dig it.
Neighbors got big laughs with the ongoing hidden airbag joke, and I’m glad they found a way to incorporate some more physical car comedy in the sequel as well.
This is quite the #squad.
Zac Efron, Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne, Ike Barinholtz and Carla Gallow? We’d like to tailgate with this crew, please.
So the airbag joke IS back!
I spoke too soon! OF COURSE there will be more airbag humor.
Aaand now I feel old.
Chloë Grace Moretz’s character does not know what a landline is. I repeat, Chloë Grace Moretz’s character does not know what a landline is. Imagine if she saw a rotary phone.
Hannibal Buress! Hannibal Buress!
I have no idea what’s going on in this scene, but I can’t wait to find out.
Check out the full trailer for more laughs! Is it summer yet?!
