NBD but Team USA ladies totally crushed it at the Olympics this year

The 2016 Olympic Games in Rio have ended, and it has been a fantastic two weeks of competition. There were tons of amazing athletes, but nobody slayed harder than the women of Team USA, who absolutely killed it at these Olympic Games.  The American women won 61 medals total and 27 Gold Medals. If they were their own country, they would have come in 4th place in total medals and tied for second in Gold Medals. Here are some of the ladies who are so overflowing with girl power, we don’t know what to do with ourselves.

Swimming: Too many Olympic records to count.

There were so many amazing ladies in the pool this Olympics. Katie Ledecky absolutely owned throughout the entire Olympics. Maya Dirado surprised even herself with a Gold Medal in the 200-meter Backstroke.

And Simone Manuel made history as the first African American woman to win an individual Olympic gold in swimming!

Gymnastics: Team USA Medaled in every event!

Simone Biles was the star of Gymnastics this year, winning an incredible four Gold Medals and one Bronze. She won a medal in every event she competed in, and all but one were Gold. But the rest of the USA Women’s Gymnastics Team killed it too. Together, they won the Team Final. Aly Raisman took home Silver Medals in the All-Around and the Floor Exercise. Madison Kochian won Silver on the Uneven Bars, and Laurie Hernandez won Silver on Balance Beam.

Water Polo: We slay by both land and sea.

The Women’s Water Polo Team defended their Gold Medal from 2012 by winning again this year. Their coach had to rush home for a few days of the Olympics for a family emergency, but his fierce team of ladies made sure they could do everything to cheer him up by winning it all!

Triathalon: If at first you don’t win Gold, tri, tri again.

Gwen Jorgensen made history as the first American woman to win the Triathalon, a grueling 1,500-meter swim, 40-kilometer bike ride, and 10-kilometer run. She came back from a devastating flat tire on her bike in London (2012), which set her back too far to recover. What better way to make a comeback than with a Gold Medal in 2016?

Wrestling: This girl can throw down.

An American woman had never won a Gold Medal in Wrestling, until last week, when Helen Maroulis upset the three-time Gold Medalist Saori Yoshida to take home the win.

Clarissa Shields won a Gold Medal in Women’s 75kg Boxing, which was the first Gold Medal for team USA in Boxing ever. Oh, and Clarissa is only 17 years old!

Team USA absolutely conquered the track last week, springing and leaping to a crazy number of medals. We all flipped out watching the above three ladies sweep the medals during the Women’s 100-meter hurdles.

Also, Team USA women won BOTH the 4×100-meter relay AND the 4×400-meter relay. The USA women have won the relay SIX consecutive times. And in the 4×100-meters, the women had an awkward redo to their qualifying heat after a collision caused them to drop the baton, but they made it through and won the Gold!
