Surf’s up, because NBC is rebooting “Blue Crush”

In a both unexpected and super exciting move, NBC is officially developing a TV reboot of Blue Crush, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The original movie starred Kate Bosworth, Michelle Rodriguez, and Sanoe Lake.

And it was, like, one of the best things about the early 2000s.

We don’t know much about the Blue Crush reboot yet. We basically just know that it’s going down, and it sounds like it’s going to follow closely in the footsteps of its source material.

"The NBC take tells the story of female empowerment and ambition in the world of Hawaii's North Shore," The Hollywood Reporter writes. "In the wake of a tragic accident, a surfer works to revive her career and bring pride to a local community threatened by commercialism and dangerous surf politics. Even in paradise, you never know what chaos is brewing inside the barrel."

The Blue Crush TV show is being written by Hannah Schneider, who will also executive produce.

She wrote for Reign so we know that she knows drama, and we also know that she’s comfy with adaptation. We guess that adapting a surf movie is a *bit* different than working on a historical fiction show about the early days of Mary, Queen of Scots…But the point is, she has the background to make this awesome.

Also working on the reboot is Imagine Television, which does shows like GeniusEmpire, and Arrested Development. So we’re getting quality behind this project — which had been in the works — on all sides.

Like we said, we don’t know much yet, so we can’t say when to expect it. But we definitely know enough to look forward to it!
