Naya Rivera and Ryan Dorsey are divorcing and we’re kind of in shock

And now for some not-so-gleeful news: Naya Rivera and Ryan Dorsey are divorcing, Yahoo reports. After two years of marriage, the 29-year-old actress filed paperwork on Nov. 15 to start the formal proceedings. According to TMZ, Rivera requested primary physical custody of the couple’s 14-month-old son Josey Hollis along with visitation rights for Dorsey.

In a joint statement issued to US Weekly on Monday, Rivera and Dorsey confirmed their impending divorce:

"After much consideration, we have made the decision to end our marriage," the couple said. "Our priority is and always will be our beautiful son that we share together. We will continue to be great co-parenting partners for him. We ask for respect and privacy for our family during this difficult time."

Just like their surprise 2014 wedding (which took place shortly after Rivera split with rapper Big Sean), news of the couple’s split seems to have come out of nowhere. While ending a marriage will obviously bring about a huge shift for all parties involved, we can only hope that Rivera and Dorsey have found peace in their decision and can keep the focus on continuing to build healthy lives for themselves and their son.
