This naughty penguin got called out for its bad behavior
As much as we adore their natural charm, animals aren’t always model citizens. When they choose to display the more unruly aspects of their personality, the humans who love them have to set them straight like the New Zealand aquarium staffers who shamed a penguin for being on its worst behavior.
Ordinarily, we’re anti-shaming around here, opting to focus more on the cuteness in whatever animals do, even when they’re behaving badly. But according to the penguin keepers at the New Zealand aquarium, Timmy the rescue penguin has had this extremely unflattering public announcement coming for the past month.
Unfortunately, they couldn’t defend the naughty attitude Timmy displayed in the company of the other penguins. According to reports, he resorted to stealing fish and even shoved another penguin to the ground.
Out of respect for the facility’s other aquatic avian creatures and for Timmy’s own good, the aquarium put the bird’s bad deeds on blast by officially naming him the “Naughty Penguin of the Month.”
On July 1, the aquarium shared the selections for the month’s naughty and good penguin on Facebook, and the differences in the animal’s behavior make it quite obvious why Timmy landed in hot water.
"Every month our penguin keepers tell the world about our naughtiest and best behaved penguins! This was the list for June," the aquarium's post reads.
Oof, Timmy. We’re face palming for you, dude. This isn’t a good look for penguins as a whole, but we hope you use the next two weeks to improve and show the aquarium and the world that you truly are a sweet bird at heart.
