PSA: Tomorrow is a nationwide pet adoption event to Clear the Shelters
If you’ve been thinking about adopting a pet (and really, you should!), tomorrow just might be your day. Hundreds of shelters are joining forces nationwide to host Clear the Shelters, an event aimed at doing just that — clearing animal shelters by finding homes for as many animals as possible.
Shelters participating in the Clear the Shelters event are reducing adoption fees or waiving them altogether in an effort to help find homes for the most animals. You can learn more at the Clear the Shelter website or on Twitter, where many participating shelters are tweeting under the hashtag #cleartheshelters.
Real talk, you guys: Summer is the busiest time of year for shelters and rescue groups for several reasons. Dogs and cats mate most often in the spring when love is in the air and the flowers are in bloom. You know what that means . . . lots of late spring and summertime litters. Also, the single busiest day of the year for animal shelters is always July 5. Loads of terrified kitties and pups escape from their homes and run away during the barrage of fireworks on the Fourth of July. It’s a heartbreaking reality.
What can you do to help? Open your home to an adorable animal in need! You’ll not only save a life, but you’ll also get an instant bestie. Shelters are filled with happy, loving pets just waiting for someone to give them a chance.
Clear the Shelters is sponsored by NBC Universal, Telemundo, and the ASPCA, who are providing grants to some of the shelters, enabling them to waive or reduce adoption fees. All the heart emojis!
We think Twitter user Greg Dawson says it best.
Who wouldn’t want that kind of love and devotion waiting at home? Let’s #CleartheShelters tomorrow! See you there.
