Johnny Depp’s daughter and Natalie Portman were just cast as sisters. We can totally see it.
Exciting movie news, Gigglers! Variety is reporting that Natalie Portman and Lily-Rose Depp (that’s Johnny Depp’s daughter, FYI) will be starring in a French film that sounds super intense! And they’ll be playing sisters.
Planetarium is the title of the film, and the plot is being mostly kept quiet. But French director Rebecca Zlotowski, who’s helming the project, told Variety, “that the film follows the journey of sisters who are believed to possess the supernatural ability to connect with ghosts.” It’s set in the 1930s, and will feature a character inspired by Bernard Natan, a hugely influential Jewish film producer of the era who later died in Auschwitz.
That’s all we know about the movie so far, but it sounds like the makings of a great supernatural drama. In the everything-comes-full-circle department, Portman actually got her movie start in French cinema, starring in the iconic film Leon in the early 1990s. She’s currently getting ready for Cannes, where she’ll debut the first film she’s directed, called A Tale of Love and Darkness. Portman is also apparently practicing her French to get prepped for the Planetarium role. Meanwhile, Depp is working with Kevin Smith on his latest project, Yoga Hosers.
As for the young Depp, looks like acting is in the blood. This will be her third role in a film and she’s still just 15 years old. Girl is definitely following in mom and dad’s performance footsteps. (Mom = super-famous French singer , Dad = Johnny Depp, duh.)
Planetarium won’t be out until next May (say it ain’t so!) but we are already pumped to learn more about this exciting project, and to see Portman and Depp in these leading roles! We’re also just incredibly excited to get this younger generation of Depp onto the big screen.
