Natalia Dyer debuted dramatic grown-out roots at the Critics’ Choice Awards
We’ve seen hair trends come and go, but Stranger Things actress Natalia Dyer has a look we can seriously get behind. This past year has brought us hairstyles like color melting (the young, hip cousin to balayage) and apparently the perm is even making a comeback. (Yes, that perm!) Though you might be on the fence about those trends (especially the ’80s perm revival), the look that Natalia debuted on the Critics’ Choice Awards red carpet is sure to get the stamp of approval — especially if you dye your locks.
While most celebs’ prep for the red carpet includes getting their roots touched up, Natalia went her own way. The star’s blonde hair took a back seat to her dark grown-out roots, and we’re not mad about it. This is a nice departure from the super coiffed, perfect hair look we’re used to seeing on the carpet.
Though the roots scream relaxed-casual-who-cares, her actual hairstyle is perfection. The loose waves have an Old Hollywood, glam feel. And if you’re trying to recreate the look, her hairstylist, Lacy Redway, even shared a great tip.
No shame in her root game.
We’re loving the slicked hair, dark roots, and loose waves. And look at that deep part. She wants you to see those roots.
The relaxed hair vibe juxtaposed perfectly against the floral Erdem dress and embellished Sophia Webster heels.
As for the tip Natalia’s hairstylist shared on Instagram on how she achieved what she called a “modern twist on a classical Marcel Wave hairstyle”:
Gotta love when Old Hollywood meets modern muse.
