Nasim Pedrad gets her own show on FOX and will soon run the world
There’s not much that Nasim Pedrad can’t do. She has all the talent, and we’re not the only ones who think so. The Fox Network announced this week that Nasim will create, write and star in her own show in the fall. That means she’ll join the ranks of other comedic auteurs on TV, like Lena Dunham, Mindy Kaling and Tina Fey. You know, icons.
As a Saturday Night Live vet, Pedrad killed it every week with bits like the motivational speaker/hip thruster Heshy and the parentally obsessed Bedelia. Her best work on SNL has to be her scary-good impression of Kim Kardashian, best seen in the historic “Waking up with Kimye” bit. Let’s just call it: The lady has some serious comedic chops.
This past season she played Jane on fellow SNL-alum John Mulaney’s sitcom, Mulaney. (Sadly, the show was canceled. Not sadly, Pedrad’s got time to do her own thang!).
She also has a recurring role on New Girl as Wilson’s partner, and kills it every time. She has really made some fans over there at FOX (and here too, clearly), and they are working hard to keep her around.
Jonnie Davis, 20th Century Fox TV president of creative affairs, told The Hollywood Reporter, “Nasim’s an undeniable creative force in front of the camera and a brilliant writer-producer behind the camera. We’ve long admired her work on SNL and Mulaney and we think she’ll be hugely valuable to us on the comedy side. . .And we can’t wait to develop with her later this year.”
But before she even starts developing her show, she’s lined up another huge gig on the network. She’s been added to the highly anticipated FOX anthology, Scream Queens. That series is getting a TON of buzz and not just because it comes from showrunner Ryan Murphy, who also just so happens to be the co-creator of Glee and American Horror Story.
Scream Queens is a horror-comedy anthology, and you won’t even believe how star-studded the cast is. In addition to Pedrad, the cast includes Jamie Lee Curtis, Lea Michele, Nick Jonas, Emma Roberts, Keke Palmer, Oliver Hudson, Abigail Breslin and Ariana Grande. It is insane how psyched we are for this show, especially now that they’ve added Nasim to the mix.
We’re also pretty excited to see what Nasim has planned for her own show. Make that—flipping out, can’t wait, crazy thrilled. Hooray!
