Here’s what we know about Nasim Aghdam, the YouTube shooter
On Tuesday, April 3rd, there was a deadly shooting at the YouTube headquarters in San Bruno, California. A woman entered and opened fire, wounding three before fatally shooting herself. Now, details about the YouTube shooter are emerging. In a press release, the San Bruno Police Department identified the YouTube shooter as Nasim Aghdam.
“The San Bruno Police Department is investigating a motive for this shooting,” the press release reads. “At this time there is no evidence that the shooter knew the victims of this shooting or that individuals were specifically targeted.”
Her motive may have been a grudge she held against YouTube. Aghdam, a YouTuber herself, reportedly claimed that the company was demonetizing her videos and censoring them. Online, she went by the name “Nasime Sabz,” NBC Bay Area reports. A website for Nasime Sabz reveals her problems with YouTube. It also links to her four YouTube channels, two Instagram pages, and Facebook page — all of which have already been deleted.
“Youtube filtered my channels to keep them from getting views!” Nasime Sabz’s website reads. “There is no equal growth opportunity on YOUTUBE or any other video sharing site, your channel will grow if they want to!!!!!”

Prior to the YouTube shooting, Nasim Aghdam had been missing.
On Monday, her father called the police to report that she’d been missing for two days, NBC Bay Area reports. He even reportedly warned them that she might go to YouTube. On Tuesday, officers found Aghdam sleeping in her car at 2 a.m. Aghdam was in Mountain View, about 30 miles from the San Bruno YouTube HQ. They reportedly let her go.
Another press conference is set for this morning, April 4th, at 9 a.m. local time.
