NASA and Humans of New York just made this kid’s dream come true
Brandon Stanton, the photographer behind the now-famous photo project, Humans of New York, was just recently able to help make one young boy’s dreams come true. And we love it. Stanton was out shooting subjects when he encountered a little boy and his father on the street. In their HONY interview, the boy told Stanton that he admired his father and wanted to become a reporter just like his dad. He said, “My dad goes all over the world and learns about the news . . . I want to be a reporter too.”
The boy elaborated, saying that were he a reporter, he would: “probably write a story about if NASA was going to launch a new rocket into space.” Our young friend had clearly thought a lot about this, saying he would interview the director of NASA and he even gave us a glimpse into some of the hard-hitting questions he’d ask.
Turns out NASA is a fan of Stanton’s blog and they responded directly to the above post on HONY’s Facebook page. NASA told this budding reporter, “We *are* going to launch a new rocket into space! We’re developing NASA’s Space Launch System to be the world’s most powerful rocket and launch NASA’s Orion Spacecraft into deep space, first to lunar orbits then eventually farther on the journey to Mars.”
Many people have commended NASA for interacting with the young human of New York and encouraging his space dreams and we are definitely some of those people. Our hearts totally burst when we think about this kid reading his reply from NASA.
Do you know what this whole thing teaches us? That sometimes making someone’s day can be as simple as leaving a thoughtful Facebook comment. Let’s keep paying that kind of kindness forward.
