The Season 3 teaser for Netflix’s “Narcos” shows the Cali Cartel picking up where Pablo Escobar left off
Fans of Narcos are still reeling from the death of Pablo Escobar — where is the show going to go without its main antagonist? The end of the drug trade drama’s second season left so many open ends, but we’re finally getting some answers. In September, Narcos was renewed for two more seasons, and now, Netflix is showing us what those seasons may have to offer.
The streaming site has released the first teaser for Narcos Season 3, which premieres on Netflix on September 1st.

In the third season, the focus shifts to the Cali Cartel, which is led by four powerful godfathers. The Cartel appears to be a whole lot more covert than Escobar’s, who used violent headlines as intimidation. The newbies instead prefer government bribery. Season 3 also sees the return of DEA agent Javier Peña (Game of Thrones alum Pedro Pascal) and the four Kings (Damian Alcazar, Francisco Denis, Alberto Ammann, and Pepe Rapazote).
While we’re intrigued by the change in direction, we can’t help but wonder how Season 3 will follow in the big shadow of Season 2.
Showrunner Eric Newman has high hopes.
"The show, since its inception, has never been about Pablo Escobar. Narcos is about cocaine and cocaine continues beyond Escobar," he told The Hollywood Reporter.
There’s no denying that it will be interesting to see another aspect of the drug trade. And as the government colludes with these new criminals, we’ve got a whole different story that could go in a zillion exciting directions. So, our guess is that yes, we’ll be plenty intrigued even without Escobar.
