You can chill on your regular mani, ’cause nail tats are the next big thing
If you’re the kind of person who is always instantly smudging your manicure or perpetually lamenting how quickly polish chips off, then you might be pleasantly surprised to hear about the newest nail trend on the block. It turns out that nail tattoos are the next big thing, with Needle Nails leading the charge for this new form of creative self-expression.
For those who follow the ever-changing and wild world of nail trends, this might not feel too shocking. After all, with extravagant designs like the Little Mermaid-themed nail art blowing up the internet, a nail tattoo seems like the next logical step. That said, the actual mechanics of nail tattoos are blowing our mind.
If you’re worried about it being painful, fear not! The tattoo needle doesn’t pierce the nail or touch the skin, it only skims the surface, making the procedure completely painless. And while they’re more permanent than regular nail polish, you don’t have to worry about a lifetime commitment. Nail tattoos grow out naturally with your nail and you’ve got a blank canvas all over again. Artist Christian Boyd tells Vogue,
"Knowing that you have this permanent thing that's not actually permanent — it's a little bit of a safety zone."
And since Needle Nails is the brainchild of tattoo artist Christian Boyd and his partner Ambie Stapleton, we’d say he knows what he’s talking about.
Do you think you’d ever spring for a nail tattoo or is this taking a trend too far?
We will admit to being skeptical at first, but after seeing some of these gorgeous shots and making sure it doesn’t hurt, we can’t help but admit that we’re intrigued.
The designs all tend to be quite minimalist, which makes sense because minimalism will look best as the nail grows out. Seeing as you could be rocking these designs for as much as three months, you’re going to want to pick something you’re smitten with.
How fun would it be to switch up your nail tat design per season?
It seems like if you’re really a hardcore manicure and nail art enthusiast, you might want to try it out once at the very least. If you’re in NYC, you can visit the Needle Nails shop in the East Village. All you have to do is send them a DM via Instagram.
Do you dare?
