The future looks bright, because Netflix renewed “Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return” for Season 2

When Netflix swooped in and changed the way we watch television, we were all ready for it. Now that we’re used to such luxuries as Netflix original shows and the revival of past favorites, we’re always at the ready for some good news. And we’re in luck! Netflix just announced that cult hit Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return is coming back for Season 2!

In case you’re unfamiliar, Mystery Science Theater 3000 is a show from the ’90s that has everything you could ever need: robots, solid jokes, and cheesy old movies with great commentary. Earlier this year, Netflix released a MST3K revival, with just the same humor and wit as the original. The show’s promo even roasted Stranger Things and it was hilarious.

We are so happy the first season was a success, because here we are now, ready and stoked for Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return Season 2.

Though a date has yet to be announced, here’s what we know: After the annual Thanksgiving marathon, hosts Joel Hodgson, Jonah Ray, and Felicia Day broke the news.

The MST3K revival came a short 18 years after the original series ended. Per typical Netflix fashion, the company came through and swooped the show up, blessing us with even more hilarity. Hodgson, the show’s creator, began a Kickstarter a couple of years ago to revive the show. The campaign was a record-breaker and clearly got the attention of the magic makers at Netflix.

The first revival season was such a success that we’re not surprised it’s being renewed. Though it is pretty hard to do, MST3K has a 100% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That’s better than most movies! So yeah, we’re pretty darn excited to get at least a bit more.

Look for more news about Season 2 coming pretty soon. Some might say, in the not-too-distant future.
