Musician Mac Miller is dead at 26

In incredibly tragic news, TMZ has reported that musician Mac Miller was found dead of an apparent drug overdose in his San Fernando Valley home today, Friday, September 7th. According to the site, officers arrived at Miller’s home at about noon local time and pronounced him dead at the scene. He was 26 years old.

Miller made headlines this past May after totaling his car while driving under the influence, and he’s rapped openly about his experiences with substance abuse in the past.

While there were rumors that the musician wasn’t doing well around the time of the crash, he seemed to have put the gossip to rest (Rolling Stone even published an article titled, “Mac Miller Wants You To Know He’s Okay” in August). Miller had also dropped his brand new album, Swimming, on August 3rd, and was scheduled to go on tour next month.

While little is still known about his passing, there has already been an outpouring of love and grief on Twitter for the star.

We’re sending condolences to all Mac Miller’s family and loved ones today.

UPDATE: Mac Miller’s family released a statement on his death, saying, “Malcolm McCormick known and adored by fans as Mac Miller, has tragically passed away at the age of 26. He was a bright light in this world for his family, friends and fans. thank you for your prayers.”

More to come.
