More music mash-ups we’re dying to see (take note, Jimmy Kimmel!)

We’ve made it to February, folks! This can only mean one thing — Valentine’s Day Jimmy Kimmel’s Mash-Up Mondays! Starting tonight, Jimmy Kimmel Live! will be debuting musical mash-ups performed IN THE FLESH every Monday night. Let me reiterate: you’ll be witnessing once-in-a-lifetime mash-up performances by two legendary bands or artists every Monday night this February.

In case you needed any more incentive to tune in, tonight will feature a mash-up between alternative rock group Weezer and bearded rock legends ZZ Top under the clever moniker, “Wee-Z Top.” If rock mash-ups aren’t your thing, fret not. Next Monday, February 9th, ’80s funk legend Morris Day and the The Time will be teaming up with pop-rock sister group, HAIM. They’ll be rounded out by a mash-up between the ultimate R&B group of the ’90s, Blackstreet, and modern soul singer, Aloe Blacc, on February 16th. Alright, is anyone else’s mind exploding?

Naturally, we’ve devised an official mash-up fantasy list — one mash-up for every Monday NEXT month. It’s a tall order, but Jimmy? If you’re reading — take heed! Maybe we can extend this into March?

Siouxsie and the Banshees x Missy Elliot

Missy’s surprise performance at the Super Bowl last night left us craving for more! It would only be appropriate to fancy her in a mash-up with ’80s goth rock band Siouxsie and the Banshees. Imagine pairing Missy’s raps (a la “Get Ur Freak On”) with the instrumental of “Cities In Dust.” The unexpected marriage between ’90s rap and ’80s rock would be incredible. Not to mention, their super-group name would be Sioxsie Elliot. Just saying!

Sigur Rós x Kendrick Lamar

Sigur Rós’ soaring, orchestral sounds have the ability to make the task of folding laundry seem like the greatest undertaking in the world. Now, imagine those soaring, orchestral sounds accompanied by the quick wit of Kendrick Lamar. Between Kendrick’s lyrical sensibility and the emotion SR brings to every track, the mash-up could very likely be the aural embodiment of world domination.

Stevie Nicks x Beyoncé

Aah yes, a mash-up of the living legends! Even if this doesn’t happen on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, we’d be happy to see these two ladies combine forces anywhere, anytime (even if its only in our dreams). Could you imagine taking Stevie’s upbeat instrumental from “Stand Back” and pairing it with some Beyoncéfied lyrics? Maybe a little “Flawless”? Power anthem, achieved!

Sinead O’Connor x Thom Yorke

That synth-y ’90s melody in “Nothing Compares 2 U” would be perfectly imperfect with Thom Yorke’s heart muttering and emotional vocals. Might this be a recipe for the most emotionally-heavy song on Earth? Yes, but we would gladly wallow in it.

Have any mash-ups you’d like to add to the list? Let us know!
