Swiss cheese ice cream is now a thing, because summer 2018 has no chill

Okay, so most of us love cheese and most of us love ice cream, but combining the two? It’s either the best idea or the worst idea we’ve ever heard, but either way, it’s happening. Swiss cheese ice cream is real, y’all, and if you live in New York City, you’ll have the chance to try it soon.

According to Gothamist, the famous Murray’s Cheese is celebrating the birthday of one of its cheeses, called Annelies — which tastes a lot like Swiss cheese, and which you can only get from their shop. And because everyone likes to celebrate their birthday with ice cream, it shouldn’t be surprising at all that Murray’s is joining forces with Oddfellows Ice Cream Co. to develop an Annelies-flavored frozen treat.

The Murray’s website describes Annelies cheese as having “sweet flavors of roasted hazelnuts and vibrant alpine grasses, with lush undertones of butterscotch and cocoa.” Some of that sounds like it might be good in an ice cream, but still. It’s cheese.

Stranger things have happened, though (ahem: mayonnaise ice cream). At least ice cream and cheese both include dairy, so maybe it’ll taste better than we imagine?

If you’re feeling adventurous and in the N.Y.C. area, now’s your time to shine. From Thursday, August 2nd to Sunday, August 5th, you can swing by any N.Y.C. Oddfellows location to try a scoop for $5, or snag a free sample on August 2nd at Oddfellows’ Bleecker Street and Grand Central Market locations.

We can think of many far worse food combinations than ice cream and cheese, so it’s probably worth a try. Who knows? It could end up being your new favorite flavor.
