9 fun things you might have forgotten about the OG “Mummy,” like Brendan Fraser scaring off Imhotep with a cat

Brace yourself for some serious nostalgia! With The Mummy starring Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella currently in theaters, it’s time to take a look back at the 1999 film of the same name — directed by Stephen Sommers and starring Brendan Fraser as adventurer Rick O’Connell and Rachel Weisz as librarian Evelyn Carnahan.

It’s super dated, sure, but also super fun — and Fraser and Weisz are quite the dynamic duo. So, here are some of the fun, quirky highlights that you’ll love to remember:

1Evelyn saved Rick from strangling to death, because she’s a boss ass bitch.

Just look at how smug she is here.

2There’s an amazing, action-packed boat fight toward the beginning of the film.

The action isn’t reserved for Imhotep, or his cohorts, alone.

3Seemingly taking a cue from Indiana Jones, Rick looks adventurer chic throughout the WHOLE. DAMN. MOVIE.

This is just ONE example, and we’re digging it.

4Rick and Evelyn have amazing chemistry.

Enough said.

5This man has some serious pipes.

“Can’t stop, won’t stop yelling at the undead,” we imagine Rick thought while screaming at mummies.

6Rick fought off Imhotep with a cat, and LOL.

The big bad’s fear comes from the ferocious felines being the guardians of the underworld. Makes sense for his time, but it’s funny to us now.

7Basically the MacGyver of the undead, Rick uses a mummy hand to grab a sword out of reach, attack another mummy, and save his life.

Talk about being inventive.

8But it’s Evelyn who ultimately puts an end to all the shenanigans by making Imhotep mortal again — and therefore destructible — by reading from the Book of Amun-Ra.

Because did we mention she’s a boss ass bitch?

9Then there’s Beni, who finally gets his due after teaming up with Imhotep, and repeatedly screwing over our heroes.

Just such a satisfying end.

So, there you have it: a trip down mummy-ry lane (ha!).
