Last night, Mulder and Scully sang a duet, kissed. And now we’re dying.
Even if you aren’t glued to the Internet and/or a television set every single hour of every single day, more than likely you’ve still heard that news that The X-Files is coming back on January 24. It’s not a re-boot, and it’s not a re-imagining. It’s our same Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, once agian played by David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. It’s never too early to start prepping for their return, and Duchovny and Anderson agree. They’ve already reunited in the best scenario — a duet.
Well, in fairness, they’ve been reuniting for a while. They’re super-tight and rumors that they’re a couple have been circulating since 2012. While they’ve never officially confirmed their relationship, they’re pretty open about their feelings for each other. See their Twitter exchanges or their unbelievably wonderful Reddit AMA for further evidence, or just to totally fangirl out.
Suffice it to say, people have been freaking out over their potential real-life romance for a really long time. So last night, when Duchovny performed at a New York club to promote his debut album, Hell or Highwater—and brought Anderson on stage with him—the world stood still for a moment.
According to People, when Anderson took to the stage she jokingly ask, “Can we play some real music, please?” Then two of them started in on Neil Young’s “Helpless,” as the crowd went bananas.
They crooned, they whispered, they fist-pumped, they smooched. It was really, really sweet. We’re not speculating on anything, all we know is that Mulder and Scully make beautiful music together.
