And let’s be real, Netflix and Chill pretty much sucks unless you’re chilling and watching something worthwhile. So to save you the trouble of spending too much time trying find a good movie to watch, we’ve done the legwork for you.
1The Longest Day
An 1962 epic warm film based on Cornelius Ryan’s book The Longest Day, the film stars Eddie Albert, Sean Connery, Henry Fonda and John Wayne. So just a tiny little no big deal cast.It’s about the D-Day landings at Normandy on June 6, 1944 during World War II. Many of the original locations were used, so it’s basically a really great history lesson.
2Babe
You remember the cutest little pig in the world, right? Of course you do. Babe teaches the greatest life lesson that you can be whatever you want to be — even an award-winning sheepdog.
3Contact
Jodie Foster making contact with extraterrestrials in Contact is everything our science fiction hearts needed in the ’90s. It’s super relatable, because deep down, when we were kids, we all thought we’d be able to get in touch with aliens eventually. No? Just us?
4Finding Dory
Dory is back and just as lost as ever. Will she find her long lost family? It’s a Disney movie, so we’ll give you one guess.
5Invincible
Want to see Mark Wahlberg play football for the Philadelphia Eagles after never playing college football (which is true for his character and in real life)? We do too.
6The Nightmare Before Christmas
A little late for the holiday season, Netflix. But now there’s no excuse not to keep Halloween and Christmas going. The Nightmare Before Christmas is a classic ’90s Tim Burton film that deserves to be watched every month of the year.
7The Blair Witch Project
Oh yes, the movie that freaked everyone out in the ’90s, because we legit thought it was real footage. We’re finally convinced the footage wasn’t accidentally stumbled upon in the woods, but that doesn’t make this movie any less scary.
8The Girl from Chicago
We’re taking things all the way back to 1932 with this film. It’s about an undercover government agent who falls in love with a woman who’s being hounded by a local crime boss. It’s in black and white (obvs) and low budget, but so worth it. Because 1932.
9Before I Go to Sleep
A British-American mystery psychological thriller starring Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth. Need we say more?
10Milk
One of the most important movies of our time, Milk is the story of Harvey Milk, who was the first openly gay man to be voted into public office in America. He was an inspiring gay rights leader who brought hope to so many hopeless gay people in the late ’70s before his untimely death.
11Night Will Fall
The original footage found in the documentary Night Will Fall was shot by Alfred Hitchcock and Sidney Bernstein in 1945 just after World War II ended. It’s about the atrocities discovered upon finding concentration camps all over Europe. The footage was recently found by researchers and is just now seeing the light of day in the form of a remastered HBO film.
