There’s a brand new take-it-anywhere-you-go streaming service, and better watch your back, Netflix
Listen, we still love you, Netflix. You’ve been there for us for years now. Supporting us with your rom-coms, expanding our horizons with your true crime docs, giving us weekend plans with your original shows. But here’s the thing — there’s someone else. Or, y’know, there will be. It’s not that we don’t love you, did we say that? Because we do. It’s just that this Movies Anywhere digital movie locker sounds pretty dope, and we might want to see other streaming services.
Now that that’s over with, let’s talk about how excited we are about this new platform. Or, well, not new, exactly. Movies Anywhere has been around since 2014, but it’s getting a bit of a makeover. It’s described as both a “cloud-based digital locker and a one-stop-shop app.” So basically, everything we could ever want.
Through this single platform, you’ll be able to access movies on iTunes, Amazon Video, Google Play, and Vudu accounts. So anything you’ve purchased on any of those services will be available through a single platform — talk about uncomplicating your life. And it’ll work on almost any app-having device, so you can use it on your phone, on your iPad, on your computer… anywhere you are, that’s where your movie library is.
On top of that, Movie Anywhere is built on existing Disney infrastructure, which makes the selection massive.
It’s going to include films from the libraries of Warner Bros., Universal, Sony Pictures, and Twentieth Century Fox. Plus Disney. *chorus of heavenly angels*
The digital landscape is constantly changing, and every studio is trying to figure out how to best appeal to a generation of people who mostly get content on their portable devices, so we’re sure there’ll be some kinks to work out — but this all sounds too good to be true. If you want to try it out, you can sign up for Movies Anywhere now!
