Your Movie Options For Fourth of July Weekend

Baby, you’re a firework. But sometimes after all of the parades and BBQs and fireworks all you want to do is relax and watch a movie. YOU’RE IN LUCK, AMERICA. Lots of movies just opened in time for this patriotic holiday. If you’re looking to cool off in a dark room and get your peepers fixated on some moving pictures, you’ve got choices. Is there anything more American than the freedom to choose what blockbuster movie you want to watch? I think not. I will confess, for a second I thought ‘cinema’ was an anagram for ‘America.’

But back to the point: Movies. This weekend. For you to watch. Here’s your line-up.

If you want to crack up for two hours, go see: Tammy

You love Melissa McCarthy. You’ve seen the previews. You know a lot of laughing is in store PLUS her husband Ben Falcone directed it, plus it also stars him and Kathy Bates, Susan Sarandon, Dan Aykroyd, Allison Janney, Toni Collette and Sandra Oh.

If you’ve got kids or are just a kid at heart, go see: Earth to Echo

From what I can gather, this is generation Y’s E.T. Three teens get together to help an alien who is stranded on earth.. Maybe there’s a hoodie bike scene, maybe not. Maybe this really ages me.

If you feel like being freaked out, go see: Deliver Us From Evil

This is a spooky, “based on a true story” film that’s supposed to be inspired by the actual accounts of an NYPD sergeant and occult investigator. More importantly, Olivia Munn is in it so, enough said.

If you want to remember the life of a movie legend, go see: Life Itself

This is a documentary about the life of world-renowned film critic Roger Ebert. The story looks inspiring and entertaining and funny and tragic. Ebert left a legacy indeed, in life and in death. Guys. See this.

If you just want to get your Rom-Com on, go see: Begin Again

IMDB says this is “a soul-stirring comedy about what happens when lost souls meet and make beautiful music together.” I say they said soul two times too many. But I also say Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo, and Adam Levine are three reasons to count me in.

And that’s just what opened this week. You can also indulge on goodies like Jersey Boys, 22 Jump Street, Malificent, Think Like a Man Too, Chef, and Obvious Child, among others.

Because after all, nothing is more American than eating copious amounts of snacks while watching Hollywood do its thang.

Happy 4th of July!
