Get old-school with a homemade Mother’s Day card for mom

Take a moment to appreciate your mom. Think about how she supported and encouraged you when you were growing up, and the important life lessons she taught you along the way. Remember the wisdom she shared, and the funny jokes—and oh, that’s right, Mother’s Day is May 10!

Show your mom you’re thinking of her this Mother’s Day with a sweet handmade card. The outside features tiny hearts stamped in colorful ink, while the inside reads “I Heart You Mom”: a lovely sentiment for Mother’s Day, or any day!

Materials:

  • Blank white card and envelope
  • Pencil with eraser
  • Five colors of ink
  • Xacto knife
  • Ruler
  • Sharpie or other dark marker

Craft away:

  • Use the Sharpie to draw a small heart on the pencil eraser, and carefully carve it out using the Xacto knife. You should end up with a raised heart on the eraser.
  • Unfold the card and lay it out flat. Press the eraser into the ink, one color at a time, and stamp small hearts all over the front and back of the card. Wipe off the eraser between colors of ink.
  • After you’ve finished stamping the card, stamp one last heart on the back of the envelope on the flap. Let the ink dry completely.
  • Once the ink has dried, use the Sharpie to outline the hearts. Don’t worry about making them identical—the irregularities help give this card its charm.
  • Flip the card over and open it. Use the ruler and pencil to draw four horizontal lines on the inside of the card, 1 inch apart.
  • Write “I Heart You Mom” on the four lines in pencil, and draw over the pencil lines in Sharpie. When you’ve finished writing, use a non-inked eraser to erase the pencil lines.
  • Pen a sweet note to your mother in the card, and put it in the mail to brighten her Mother’s Day!
