An Ohio dad allegedly cut off his teenage daughter’s hair, and now he’s being investigated for child abuse

Ohio police have opened a possible child abuse investigation after a Facebook post claimed a father cut his daughter’s hair as punishment. In a January 31st Facebook post, Christin Johnson posted three photos of her daughter, Kelsey, one in which her daughter had long hair, and two where she had short hair. She implied that Kelsey’s father and stepmother had forced Kelsey to cut her hair because they were angry that she got highlights for her thirteenth birthday.

"This is what my daughter looked like Sunday when I took her home and the other two pics is what happened today before she was brought to me...all over me having highlights put in her hair for her birthday!" Johnson wrote.

Police Chief Colby Carroll told BuzzFeed News that Johnson had filed a complaint against the father and stepmother and that the “potential child abuse” was under investigation.

Johnson’s post has been shared more than 25,000 times, and more than 39,000 people have reacted to it on Facebook. Commenters have condemned Kelsey’s father and stepmother, with some accusing the pair of emotional abuse.

The girl’s father and stepmother are both firefighters. The Middleton Township Fire Chief Steve Asmus told Fox 8 News that they both have been placed on unpaid leave until the investigation concludes. As of February 12th, the two have not had any charges filed against them.

Thankfully, it seems that Kelsey won’t have to wait for her hair to grow back. Johnson shared another Facebook post on February 3rd thanking hairdressers at a salon for providing Kelsey with a new wig.

Needless to say, this is a completely inappropriate form of punishment for a child, and we hope the situation is thoroughly investigated.
