We’re not done with ‘The Fast and the Furious’ just yet!

We’re all familiar with the insanely popular The Fast and the Furious movies. Starring such talented folks as Vin Diesel, the late Paul Walker (RIP), Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, and Tyrese Gibson, these films have more than cemented their place in pop culture not only among car/racing aficionados, but those of us who simply appreciate a good action film with relatable drama, comedy, and romance thrown in for good measure. The latest installment – Furious 7, ranked at 81% on Rotten Tomatoes – brought in a whopping $1.5 billion (yes, billion) at the box office. Universal Studios Florida is even getting on board with the Furious love by building a new ride dedicated to the franchise, due to open in 2017.

And thankfully, we don’t have to say good-bye to The Fast and the Furious onscreen saga just yet. This past Friday, actor and producer Diesel announced via Facebook that a new trilogy (!!!) is going to be in our hands, starting with the previously announced eighth installment.

The trilogy, which Diesel is producing along with partner Neal H. Moritz, has not found its directors quite yet because Diesel and Moritz are determined to find the right ones(s). The trilogy will round out the franchise at an even 10 films.

According to Diesel, who spoke at Universal’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas this past April, Furious 8 will premiere April 14, 2017.

“I swear to you and to my brother upstairs [Paul Walker], we are going to make the best movie you’ve ever seen,” Diesel said during the convention.

We’re sure Walker would be proud of his friend and colleague, as he’s doing an amazing job keeping this franchise fresh, exciting, and true to its roots all at the same time. Diesel is obviously dedicated to wrapping up the saga right, and it shows.
