This mom wore an April the Giraffe mask when she went into labor, and now her baby has an adorable giraffe costume too

April the Giraffe had all of us waiting by our computers with bated breath for months, for a chance to see her finally give birth to her calf. And for one mom, the obsession went far beyond the internet stream. Photographer and mom Erin Dietrich channeled her inner April the Giraffe while she went into labor with her own baby recently, and became an overnight, viral sensation.

In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months, April the Giraffe is, indeed, a real giraffe. And she was in labor for what felt like a lifetime, to both us and her. Her caregivers shared her progress via a livestream link. And the entire world tuned in in hopes of catching a first glimpse of her newborn calf.

Oh, the things we become obsessed with…

Dietrich is pretty experienced in the child-birthing department. And got on Facebook Live donning a plastic giraffe head over a huge pregnant belly. And it was the cutest thing ever. In a statement to People, the mother of four explained her reasoning for doing so, saying:

“Weeks prior I just could not sleep because of pregnancy insomnia and so just became obsessed with watching April the Giraffe to see if she had her baby so that’s where it all came from."

While in labor, Dietrich hilariously donned the mask at the hospital. And later gave birth to a baby boy named Porter!

Welcome to the world, baby Porter!

April the Giraffe ended her long labor shortly after, on the morning of April 15. And because anything is possible when social media is on your side, the two moms actually got a chance to meet in person!

It could just be baby Porter’s adorable giraffe costume. But, April the Giraffe couldn’t help but fall in love with him, too.

Seriously, how many times have you said “awwww” today? We can’t get enough of this cuteness.
