Molly Ringwald is getting back to her romantic comedy roots with a new Netflix movie!
The one and only Molly Ringwald is coming to Netflix for a new romantic comedy film! Yes, you read that right, Ringwald is going back to her rom-com roots and we are freaking out.
On Monday, Deadline reported the news and our ’80s romantic comedy obsessed minds can’t stop thinking about it.
Before we get into the new movie news, let’s all take a moment to remember the days when the 48-year-old actress was the queen of romantic comedies — aka when she was the queen of the Brat Pack.
Ringwald in the ’80s gave us Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and so many more films.
Sure, this project is set in modern times, but it has to do with romance and comedy…what could be better?
Okay, so now about the actual film. According to Deadline, Ringwald is set to star in the Netflix original film, The Kissing Booth. It is based on the YA novel by Beth Reekles, by the same name.
The publication revealed that Teen Beach Movie director, Vince Marcello, is going to be helming the film and has written the script. Plus, Joey King is also on board in regards to casting.

Want to know more? We’ve got you covered!
The film will follow Elle Evans, a 16-year-old girl who has never been kissed. Unlike Josie Geller in Never Been Kissed, Elle is popular and loves to party, she just hasn’t found her prince to kiss.
When the lead character finds herself working the kissing booth at her town’s carnival she will be face-to-face with her longtime crush, Noah. The movie will unveil the ups and downs of being smitten with the hottest kid in school, and of course what happens at the infamous kissing booth.
While we know Ringwald isn’t the lead in this movie, we’re still hoping it gives us major teen crush vibes worthy of her John Hughes movie days.
Wouldn’t you want to see a modern Jake Ryan on Netflix? Who are you kidding, of course you would. Now all we need is a release date, so we can start the countdown to this new epic film.
