Coming soon to your phone: Final Fantasy VII

Here’s some amazing news out of the gaming world: Final Fantasy VII will soon travel with you EVERYWHERE on your iPhone and your iPad. So you might want to start deleting everything off of your mobile devices, because this is about to become the most important app in your life. Also, maybe the largest, because it takes up 2GB of memory and 4GB to download it, but don’t let that dampen this exciting day.

Why is this a big deal? Because Final Fantasy VII is arguably one of the best to come out in the last few decades, receiving ridiculously high scores for its gameplay, design, and (often shocking) story. Since its initial release in 1997, it has sold over 10 million copies worldwide. But, to buy a copy, you’ve got to have a PlayStation console or a computer with the right graphics card to play it, and, maybe 18 years later, not everyone has that anymore. But a good majority of the population does have something with iOS software in it, so the dream of replaying Final Fantasy VII is alive and well again!

Another great thing: it’s not a remastered remake. So if you’re someone with a real soft spot for late ’90s video game graphics and sound, this is the perfect game for you. Because it looks like that same game you played all those years ago, you’re just now playing it wherever you go on your iPhone.

Final Fantasy‘s developer, Square Enix, released a teaser trailer for the new download. While you can navigate to the App Store and find it, it’s still not available in all regions just yet (including, the United States). BUT! It does list a release date of August 20th, which means that maybe at midnight tonight, all our Final Fantasy dreams will come true.
