Disney’s “Moana” trailer was released during the Olympics, and we’re totally sold!

Disney just released a trailer for its new animated film, Moana, and even though it’s only a minute long, our inner child is already counting down the days until we can buy tickets!

The movie is making some serious waves as the first Disney princess movie ever (ever!) in which the heroine doesn’t have a love interest. That’s right, there’s no prince, no frog, and (from what we can gather) no kiss.

This means that Moana will be one of the first princess-centered movies most kids have ever seen that won’t make finding love or “the one” a large part of the central goal or theme. All we can say is: it’s about time!

And while Moana is undeniably beautiful, she showcases an athletic, real-person body seldom ever seen in animated projects. Which means a new generation of kids will get to see a strong, non-white female role model who doesn’t have romance even a little bit on the brain.

Moana, where were you when we were little?!

Oh, and as if all of that wasn’t awesome enough, Lin-Manuel Miranda — the genius behind this year’s Broadway sensation Hamiltoncowrote the music. Yep.  Needless to say, we are beyond excited for this one.

So get your Disney-loving friends together now to plan your viewing party. We’ll be sure to bring the tissues, since based on the trailer alone we’re sure to cry at least a few tears of lady-power-induced joy.
